Trailing Above the Clouds
At over 3,000 meters above sea level, the Outopia Huanglong Extreme Endurance Race is a race shaped by altitude.
Set in Songpan, Sichuan, this race brings runners deep into one of China’s most spectacular alpine landscapes - where thin air, steep climbs, changing weather and technical mountain trails create a truly unique mountain experience.
Here, every step tells a story.
The challenge is not only about distance or elevation. It is about learning how to move with the mountains, adapt to changing conditions and find your own rhythm on the trail.
Surrounded by snow-covered peaks, open alpine meadows and ancient forests, Huanglong offers runners a journey through some of China’s most breathtaking terrain.
For Outopia, creating the Huanglong Extreme Endurance Race is about more than building a competition. It is about bringing people together through a shared love of the mountains and creating a place where runners can challenge themselves, connect with nature and discover new possibilities.
Discovering Huanglong, One Stage at a Time
One of the things that makes the Outopia Huanglong Extreme Endurance Race special is the variety of ways runners can experience the mountains.
Alongside single-day races, Outopia also created multi-day race formats, allowing participants to explore Huanglong through different stages, distances and terrains.
Instead of passing through the mountains in one continuous effort, multi-day runners have the chance to gradually discover the landscape — from forest trails and alpine meadows to higher and more technical mountain sections.
Every stage brings something different.
A new rhythm.
A new challenge.
A new perspective of Huanglong.
And in the mountains, nothing is guaranteed.
Clear skies can quickly turn into mist and strong winds. Temperatures can drop within minutes. The trail can shift from smooth paths to rocky climbs and technical sections.
That unpredictability is part of the adventure.
At Huanglong, runners are not simply chasing a faster time. They are learning to listen to the mountains, adjust their pace and find their own way forward.
Stories from the Trail
Behind every finish line is a different story.
The women’s 30K race at the 2026 Outopia Huanglong Extreme Endurance Race brought together experienced runners from across the community, all facing the same challenge: high altitude, demanding terrain and ever-changing mountain conditions.
Outopia Elite athlete Qiong Luo found her rhythm early and stayed composed throughout the race. From long climbs to technical descents, she managed her effort carefully and trusted her experience in the mountains.

Her patience and consistency helped her secure the women’s 30K championship. For teammate Ping Luo, Huanglong tested a different kind of strength.
Before arriving at the race, Ping had already completed four races, and accumulated fatigue became another challenge waiting on the trail.
During the 30K course, she faced stomach issues and electrolyte imbalance, forcing her to change her original race strategy. Instead of pushing blindly, she focused on managing each section, adjusting her pace and staying present.
She kept moving forward.

Despite the difficulties, Ping finished fourth in the women’s 30K race — a result that reflected not only her fitness, but also her ability to adapt when the mountains demanded more.
That is what makes trail running special. The perfect race rarely exists. Weather changes. Conditions change. Plans change. What matters is how we respond — how we adjust, keep moving and find our way through the mountains.
Why We Keep Coming Back
Long after the finish line, what stays with runners is often not just the result.
It is the feeling of standing on a mountain ridge with snow-covered peaks ahead.
It is crossing endless alpine meadows under an open sky.
It is finding the strength to take one more step when altitude makes every movement harder.
The Outopia Huanglong Extreme Endurance Race represents what Outopia believes trail running can be: a way to explore, to connect and to experience the mountains together.
Every runner leaves Huanglong with a different story.
Some leave with a podium finish.
Some leave having completed a personal challenge.
Some leave with new friendships and unforgettable memories.
But everyone leaves with a deeper connection to the trail.
Trail Running Unites.
